Barn Boom Box
Barn Radio
Tom and BarnBarn Radio 2
One of my latest creation! This was for a friend who had just opened a specialty grocery store that had a “country” feel to it. The barn was obviously built from scratch with mostly scrap from my shop, an old Sony am/fm/cd [96], new Sony 5 1/4 2way speakers facing the rear and an electric motor that operates the barn door. oh! and 500 Popsicle sticks for the facade & roof. A 2″ brushless fan to aid in cooling. It sounds great and was a huge hit!

Custom Tool Box

CUSTOM TOOL BOX! One of the most fun projects I was asked to do was a decommissioned Matco tool box for a fellow who worked as a bodyman. He repainted it and then sent it to me. Then the fun began! I took out the drawer assembly and installed a hardwood front incorporating 2 130 watt Sony 2wy 6×9s, a Sony am/fm/cd and a Sony 50×2 amp. On the front I also installed a light organ that responded to the music in a V pattern between the 6×9s and the head unit. At the top center of the panel I placed a cigarette
lighter and on top was a cell phone docking port so he could charge his phone while at work, plus when the system was activated it would send up the power antenna. The top tray of the toolbox was dedicated to cd storage. It was carpeted with trunk liner. The interior of the box where the amp and power supply were kept I installed a 3in brushless fan to aid in cooling the components. All topped off by a personalized engraved plaque stating ‘made by and for whom”. The reason I am bringing this up is that this project was constructed 8 years ago and this fellow has since moved out of town and we have lost contact, so the possibility of photo’s are slim to none !

Under The Cabinet

Undercabinet Install in Remodel

Undercabinet Install in Remodel

This another installation in a kitchen area. This was mounted under cabinet. I match the woodwork and trim. Even the cabinet installer liked the look. The location of this unit is along side a desk nook in the kitchen. Note, this is an AM/FM/CD/CASS from a 2002 Oldsmobile. The rear channels of this machine are wired to two 6.5in. 2way marine speakers located under the deck on the adjacent patio area.

More kitchen installs to come.

Kitchen Cabinet installation, my home

Kitchen Cabinet installation, my home

Here, I have installed a car stereo into my kitchen cabinets. I have placed the speakers on top of the upper cabinets facing up toward the ceiling, which fills the room with sound while still allowing for conversation. Why buy a home stereo and then have to place it on the counter to take up room. Having a car stereo in the cabinet reduces the space needs and it looks pretty slick. Nice touch. So much so, that I have installed numerous stereos in kitchens and workshop

Humble Beginnings

R2D3R2D3 – 8Track Lives On
This was an early design using spare parts. Yes, that is an 8track player. In 1987, I named him R2D3 and the name stuck. The 2 side pieces are factory speaker baffles from a 1982 Camero, the machine is out of a 1980 Ford LTD and the speakers are from a 1979 Mercedes Benz. He has been used as a job sight radio for many of His years. He had plaster and paint all over him and someone dropped a ladder and broke his face. Just recently “rehabbed” adding oak and walnut accents and a new paint job I think “R2” is pretty proud of himself! The amazing thing is that it still plays great.
